7 Items Dumpster Rental Services Won't Take

May 15, 2023

At some point, you may need additional trash-hauling services beyond a street dumpster. According to Home Guide, 40-yard dumpsters are best for full-house cleanouts, large-scale home remodeling projects, roof replacements, and more! Whether you're hosting a big party at your home, a formal gathering at your company, or managing a city festival, a dumpster rental can ensure your sanitation needs are met. However, there are some rules you must abide by in terms of what you can place in these containers. Here is a list of items your dumpster rental service won't take.

1. Batteries

Most batteries should be disposed of in a specific way, whether you have car batteries or smaller ones that you use for appliances. There are battery recycling facilities that handle their disposal. Batteries contain internal lead acid, which can contaminate a landfill. In other words, if your old battery leaks, it harms the environment, so don't mix it with other standard trash.

2. Tires

Tires can take up too much space in your dumpster containers. These items aren't good for landfills since they consist of rubber. If your tires have become worn out, play it safe and take them to your local auto dealer. The rubber in your old tires can go a long way and become mulch to use around trees.

3. Chemicals

You never want to mix any chemicals in with your regular trash. Chemicals can contaminate the air and the soil and harm a human that comes in contact with it. Most household cleaners are included in the list of chemicals you can't put in these containers. While more natural cleaners are in use today, there are still many solvents and other products that can harm the environment. If the container that held the household cleaner is completely and visibly empty, then the trash removal servers may be able to haul it away.

4. Medical Waste

Most medical facilities have specific containers to dispose of waste. Doctors may have tissue or bone fragments and gauze to dispose of after surgery. Things such as blood, bandages, used needles, fecal matter, and other bodily fluids can be hazardous if another human comes in contact with them. Luckily, such facilities have their own units and specially labeled containers in-house. However, a typical dumpster rental service is never suitable for storing and hauling away these items for disposal.

5. Mattresses

Like tires, your mattresses use an insane amount of space. Also, your trash removal services may not know what materials such mattresses consist of. Mattresses and box springs may have harmful materials or all-natural ones like features, but it's hard to tell at first sight. Most of these items don't break down easily over time, so it's not wise to place them in a landfill. That's why if you have old mattresses and box springs, there are specific local services available for their removal and recycling.

6. Refrigerators

Refrigerators aren't acceptable for your dumpster rental, not because of their size, but because of what's inside. That appliance has refrigerant fluid that can seep into the soil if you place it into a landfill. It's yet another item that you should call your local services for specific removal.

7. Paints and Ink

Some paints can be toxic. Certain paints, especially those used on a home's exterior, can give off toxic fumes. In some cases, some paints and lacquers can also be flammable. Mercury and lead can also be in some of these products. Since it's hard for a dumpster hauler to know whether or not your paint is safe, many companies list it as a restricted item. Inks can also stain the inside of your container. In addition, like paint, they may also contaminate the soil beneath a landfill.

Utilizing a dumpster rental can ensure your event or gathering remains as sanitary as possible. You may also use it when wrapping up a big move and need to get rid of excess items. Maybe you have a construction project cleanup to manage. Whatever the case, there are specific rules to follow for the safety of the environment and the trash haulers themselves. If you have various items that require recycling, contact the required local services ahead of time. Respecting the rules and regulations of your
dumpster rental service helps everyone. Contact our local team today at Cirone Construction & Carting for assistance.
